24/7 access to accessible public facilities for people with a disability
The Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) system is an initiative by the Master Locksmiths Association (MLAA). The master key allows access to dedicated public facilities, including facilities in National Parks, elevators at railway stations, the new Changing Places facilities throughout Australia, disabled toilets that are locked, and even the Liberty Swing.
Eligible people can purchase a key that opens all accessible toilets displaying the MLAK symbol. The system is also fitted to elevators at railway stations, accessible toilets in National Parks, and adaptive playground equipment across Australia. For ease of use, a large plastic head can be purchased to go over the head of the key.
Who’s Eligible? Eligibility is restricted to people who have a disability or have written authority from:
- a doctor
- a disability organisation
- community health center
- the owner or manager of a building with an accessible toilet on site
