The Master Locksmiths Association of Australia(MLAA), announced Zach Winslade winner of the John Andrew Apprentice of the year 2017 at its Annual Conference, Gala Dinner & Awards Night.
The MLAA commented that this “award recognises the up-and-coming next generation of the trade. During a whole day of testing, that included a theoretical and practical part, the MLAA assessed the knowledge and skills of every participant individually. In a second step, industry specialists then reviewed and compared all workpieces to determine the quality of the work. Zach was successful against two strong competitors and won with just 2 points”.
This is a well deserved award as Zach has always shown dedication and professionalism at Independent Locksmiths & Security. He is now the lucky recipient of an amazing prize, sponsored by LSC, Silca and Abus. Zach will be off to Europe next year with Keiran, to visit the factories of Abus in Germany and Silca in Italy. This will be Zach’s first trip to Europe.
This award means a lot to us as we have been very proud to have two previous Apprentices win this MLAA award. Jason Lane in 1992 and back in 1989 Wayne Eagles won the award. Wayne has been with our business for 30 years and is now one of our Business Development Managers and is a specialist in Masterkeying.
Independent Locksmiths & Security have a long held involvement with the MLAA. Our Director, Michael McGovern joined the Association in 1975. He was elected to the Executive and the held office as President from 1981 to 1986.
Our Apprenticeship Program
Every year Independent Locksmiths & Security take on a new Locksmith Apprentice and many of our long serving Technicians have been with us since this first stage. Our Apprenticeship Program has certainly been rewarding for our business and for the individuals who have gone through the program.
